Jazz Walk of Fame in Enkhuizen |
BACK |
Saturday, October 11th, 2008 the first Jazz Walk of Fame was unveiled at Saint Johns Square in Enkhuizen (at the lower end of the wellknown slope of the Venedie). There is one other Jazz Walk of Fame in the World. Yes, that's in New Orleans. So the one in Enkhuizen can be called quite unique.
The Jazz Walk of Fame consists of Plaques with texts about the creation of the Walk and with the names of existing and former jazzbands from Enkhuizen en of persons who have been important for Old Style Jazz in Enkhuizen. It is in the shape of a "J", or a saxophone if you want and it extends towards the Venedie. In the future more plaques will be added, the first one in January 2009.
The Jazz Walk of Fame in Enkhuizen is an initiatief of Sgt. Pepper's Jazzclub in Enkhuizen. De Jazz Walk of Fame was made possible by this Jazzclub, the Stichting Jazzfestival Enkhuizen, the existing Enkhuizer jazzbands, the VSB culture fund and the city of Enkhuizen.
More information and history on the Sgt. Pepper's Jazzclub website (Dutch).
